sE Electronics is the story of how a musician’s genuine passion reshaped the audio recording world. It all started over 25 years ago when Siwei Zou — a conductor, composer, and accomplished bassoonist — decided to merge his deep musical ear with microphone design. Unlike many brands that simply outsource production to OEM factories, sE built their very own production facility. To this day, the heart of every sE condenser microphone — its gold-sputtered capsule — is individually handcrafted and fine-tuned by skilled artisans. Today, Siwei’s daughter, Ling Zou, leads the family-owned business, carrying forward this relentless drive for perfection.
sE Electronics has repeatedly transformed the industry. They literally invented the portable acoustic shield with their Reflexion Filter series, making dry vocal recording in untreated rooms a reality. Their V Series dynamic microphones (especially the ubiquitous V7) quickly became a staple on tour riders worldwide thanks to exceptional rejection of off-axis noise and natural warmth. Perhaps the ultimate stamp of approval came when audio royalty Rupert Neve partnered exclusively with sE to co-develop a flagship line of ribbon and tube microphones.
